FAQS
How long does a carving
last?
The life expectancy of a sculpture
is determined by the size
and delicacy of the piece,
the temperature of the area
it is set up in, sunlight,
and air movement. Most sculptures
will last 6 to 8 hours under
normal conditions. Larger
designs can take days to melt
away.
Do you use molds?
Absolutely not. All sculptures
are hand carved. Each piece
is unique.
What makes the ice
clear?
The blocks are made in a specially
designed block machines made
by Clinebell Equipment Co.
A pump is used to circulate
the water as it freezes from
the bottom up. This produces
a crystal clear block of ice.
How long does it take
to make a carving?
Each custom designed sculpture
is unique and requires its
own attention. Some multi
piece jobs will take 2 or
3 days. Some of the basic
sculptures which are most
popular, such as lovebirds
or swan, can take 45 minutes.
(I’ve done hundreds,
repetition makes you fast)
What tools do you
use?
To move ice around, we use
ice tongs, and hand trucks.
For most carvings we use a
hydraulic lift as a work table
so the height can be adjusted.
The rough outline is done
with a chain saw. High-quality
Japanese ice chisels are used
for the second stage of most
pieces. Also used are die
grinders, special router bits,
propane torch, CO2 tank with
siphon hose, and household
irons with metal plates for
welding flat surfaces together.
What size are they?
A sculpture can be any size
but the basic size sculpture
starts with a 40” x
20” x 10”, 300-
pound block of ice.
What does an ice sculpture
cost?
Sculptures start at $300.00
including a light tray, delivery,
and setup. These are sculptures,
such as the lovebirds on a
heart, swan, and crystal vase.
Custom ice sculptures are
priced according to size and
difficulty. We price our work
